In an effort to recover what they see as a lost essence of
humanness, the descendants of the human race reach back across
time and space to transport a human from 1980s Earth to a future
in which nearly all scitizens are enhanced and connected by
neurological implants. A second "guest" is also
inadvertently transported forward and encounters the Tubeheads, an
advanced group of scitizens dedicated to the task of
programmatically mapping all human emotion and behavior.
Global Council dispatches an agent to track down the redundancy,
but the agent does not succeed before society has been altered
